This vintage saxophone is a true gem, a Martin MAGNA.
What really sets this particular instrument apart is its solid sterling silver neck, crafted by Martin in very limited quantities (some of which were also included with alto saxophones).
Although it has likely been relacquered, this does not affect its performance, as it still plays excellently. Additionally, it has recently undergone a complete overhaul, including a full pad replacement.
The solid sterling silver neck of this saxophone is reminiscent of the iconic King Super 20, offering a special combination of different materials (brass and silver). It has a dark, smooth, and velvety sound, yet at the same time, it delivers a pleasant bite and unlimited volume when pushed. Compared to the standard brass neck, the silver one adds a bit more resistance and produces more overtones.
This Magna model retains those characteristics, but with an even darker sound color and easier intonation control than the King Super 20.
