Su bajo precio se debe a que este instrumento necesita un enzapatillado completo. Selmer comienza a fabricar en el año 1931 los modelos “Super Series”, bien diferenciados del modelo justamente anterior “new large bore” por llevar estampado en la campana las tres SSS. Básicamente existen tres versiones de esta serie: Cigar Cutter es el primero en aparecer, siendo un apodo y nunca el nombre oficial. Fue llamado así por la similitud que el sistema de la llave de octava tenía con un cortador de cigarrillos antiguo; tan simple como eso. El anuncio de Selmer en la época era muy claro: “el saxofon de mayor calibre de tubo y con mejor timbre fabricado hasta la fecha”
