Morgan Fry "Super Vintage" tenor saxophone mouthpiece
The best of both worlds: the body and warmth of a vintage mouthpiece, but with all the sharpness and speed of a high baffle.
Description by Morgan Fry : Thousands of musicians love the rich and full sound of the vintage big chamber mouthpieces that all our heroes played in the 50's and 60's. But many of us saxophonists who work here find ourselves in situations where those mouthpieces, while sounding good, do not have enough "edge" to get a sound suitable for modern languages or noisy stages. I started by adjusting my CAD models. I started with the classic "double ring" design (just like my Vintage series mouthpiece), then I started playing with everything else: table angle, peak angle, deflector angle, orientation, tip rail, etc. - everything except the camera. What I was able to achieve is a piece that is acoustically the same as my favourite vintage pieces, but aerodynamically very different. As a result, we have the best of both worlds: a lot of advantages and super fast response without sacrificing the richness of tone and full range of expression. I call it "Super" Vintage: its heritage is firmly traditional, but its heart is completely modern.
