About Rigotti

Rigotti is located in Grimaud near Saint-Tropez in Var. Since 2005, they has been operating several reed beds and directly supplying raw rattan to musicians, dealers and wholesalers. Sarl MARION (Rigotti company name) grows high-quality wat cane, which the greatest musicians appreciate very much. Var is a climatically suitable sector, where the climate is mild, sunny and sunny. Sarl MARION’s sugarcane roots were planted on their reed beds long ago, and they reproduce in the soil over time. Sprouts appear every year. Determine the diameter of the sprouts after a few weeks and keep it unchanged until they are cut off. At the age of one year, the cane reaches its final size (approximately 5 to 6 meters).

It is harvested manually in winter, and only 2-year-old sugarcane is cut to ensure the high quality of the product. Use scissors to cut the cane apart so as not to damage the cane. During harvesting, they control all young shoots and only keep shoots with the same diameter as the future reed production.

All the canes are accurately classified and selected. They are then tied into a bundle and assembled into a bell shape before cleaning. Sarl MARION exposed the rattans to Varois sunlight to brown them, and then store them in a ventilated warehouse where they were naturally dried for two years. Once the drying is complete, they will remove the knots to get the perfect tube. Depending on their diameter and thickness, these tubes will be used to make different types of reeds for different instruments: clarinet, soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, bassoon, oboe…
